Fix a Leak Week

Fix a Leak Week

Did you know that the average household leak wastes 10,000 gallons of water each year? That’s more than a month’s supply for a family of four. If your water bill is suspiciously high, it’s time to look for leaks or contact your water provider. Try these 3 easy DIY tips:

  • Identify toilet leaks: Placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If any color shows up in the bowl after 10 minutes, you have a leak. (Be sure to flush immediately after the experiment to avoid staining the tank.) Watch the video.
  • Look for continuous leaks: If you’re not running water in the house and your meter is moving, you have a continuous leak. Learn how to read your water meter.
  • SPEAK UP! In the workplace: Leaks don’t just happen at home. If you see a faucet dripping, a toilet running or broken sprinkler heads, make sure to report it to the maintenance staff.

Visit the EPA website to learn how to check for leaks in your home. And, be sure to check out Summit County’s Blue River Watershed Water Efficiency Plan for more information on community-wide water conservation efforts.

11th Annual Save Our Snow & Demo Day @ Arapahoe Basin
Mar 30 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Save our Snow is your chance to come out and enjoy epic powder at Arapahoe Basin and help conservation efforts in Summit County. Come meet A-Basin’s Green Team and representatives from HC3 and learn about A-Basin’s sustainability initiatives while elevating your green experience at Arapahoe Basin. All proceeds from this event will benefit the High Country Conservation Center, to help us provide awareness, education, appreciation, and preservation of our environment.

To celebrate the day and the “Power To Save The Powder” A-Basin will have a tent village in Mountain Goat Plaza with some Colorado friends that practice sustainability in their businesses and products. There will be plenty of ski and snowboard vendors around demoing gear. You will need to make a minimum $10 donation to HC3 to demo some of the newest equipment around, this is not a day to be missed!

We will also have a prize drawing and silent auction with prizes from our sustainability-minded friends in the tent village.
