From Green Cleaning and Backyard Composting to Local Food and homebrewing, our Green Living Workshops are comprehensive, hands-on opportunities to learn about a variety of topics. All Workshops are a suggested donation of $10 unless otherwise noted; pre-registration is greatly appreciated. Thursday, February 11 - Homemade Green Gifts for your Valentine
Looking for an environmentally sound option for your sweetie for Valentine's Day? Doesn't seem like there's a whole lot to choose from when it comes down to the same ol' roses, candy, and animated stuffed animals? How about something homemade, organic, and romantic? Learn how to make your own dreamy bath salts, love butter, and massage oils from the experts. Now that is something you can use! Tracie Mears and Justin Pollack from the Backcountry Herbal Apothecary will show you how to make your own V-Day gift just in time for the 14th. Gifts that your honey will actually appreciate! Thursday, March 18 - Secrets to Green Cleaning
Spring cleaning is just around the corner, so come learn easy ways to keep your house toxin-free using simple, affordable ingredients. Learn about the hazards of common cleaning products and how to decipher labels and select healthier, safer products. Saturday, May 8 - High Country Backyard Beekeeping
60 percent of the food we eat is connected to pollinated plants. Your garden, your neighbors’ gardens and the planet will benefit from more bees. Come find out how to keep these fascinating insects for pollination, delicious honey, beeswax and enjoyment without using the standard pesticides and chemicals that conventional beekeepers often use. This class will be an introduction to the topic of backyard beekeeping as well as cover the environmental issues threatening bees. Margael Meister, founder of DenverBee, will also talk about bee races and breeds, disease and pest management, hiving, high altitude beekeeping. Thursday, July 22 - Backyard Composting in the Mountains Workshop
Compost is one of best natural soil amendments on the planet for our local soils. Learn about simple ways to create less waste right in your own backyard! Compost experts will teach you the basics of backyard composting for high altitude and cold weather climates. Find out which recipes work, how to select the right bin and location, the secrets of conveniently collect food scraps in your kitchen, good ways to turn and mix compost, and how to harvest.
