Thanks to a partnership between Summit County Government, Vail Echo, The Summit Foundation, Summit School District, local town governments, and the High Country Conservation Center, students at Summit County’s high school, middle school, and elementary schools are participating in the Composting in the Schools Program. The program is designed to educate students, teachers and parents about the importance of composting as well as implement cafeteria composting and waste-free lunch initiatives.
The Composting in the Schools Program has benefited the entire community—and our environment—by reducing the waste generated in local schools, reducing greenhouse gas emissions (through methane reductions from landfill gas), and through the production of a local soil amendment for backyard and community gardens. HC3 would like to thank Summit County students for their participation in the Composting in the Schools Program. Without their support and commitment to our environment, this program would not be possible.
