High Country Conservation
Center is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to
promoting practical solutions to waste reduction and resource
conservation in our mountain community.
HC3 is a stand-alone nonprofit, not a government program.
We rely on the support of the community we serve.
Please make a tax-deductible donation today. Every dollar
helps as we strive to do more to reduce waste and conserve
resources.
If you would like to support
a specific program or service, please contact us at

"The wonderful classes
provided by the High Country Conservation Center have taught
me so much about every aspect of high altitude gardening,
from composting in the beginning to preserving my herbs
and veggies in the end."
~ Tracie Mears (and Liliana) in Frisco
Conserving
energy today for a greener tomorrow.
"With an energy audit,
the High Country Conservation Center helped me find the
best ways to save energy in my home. Now they are helping
me reach my goal of lowering my own carbon footprint."

How we serve you...
Energy Conservation:
HC3 provided over 60 Home Energy Audits in 2009, providing
local residents with detailed recommendations for improving
energy efficiency in their homes. HC3 has also initiated
15 Home Energy Ratings for new homes, providing them with
a quantifiable measure of energy performance. Read more
about our Energy
Programs here...
Recycling and Composting:
HC3 reached over 1200 students in 2009
with waste reduction, recycling, and composting lessons
in classrooms and through field trips to the recycling centers
and landfill; trained 7 Master Mountain Composters (who
in turn train others to compost); initiated the Certified
Volunteer Recycling Program with 23 residents completing
the program and volunteering over 1100 hours at the drop-off
centers to help Summit County Recycling collect and ship
over 2000 tons of clean recyclable materials; and helped
the County save 411,680 plastic bags from our landfill through
the 2009 Reusable Bag Challenge. Read more about our Recycling
and Composting
Programs here...
Workshops &
Events: In 2009, HC3 hosted 15 Green Living
Workshops and large events (like the Earth Day Action Fair)
with over 450 people in attendance throughout the events.

and events here...
Outreach:
HC3 produces the weekly column in the Summit Daily News
“Ask Eartha Steward,” public service announcements
on Summit County TV 10 featuring The Green Show and Eartha’s
Angels, the annual print publication “Eartha Steward’s
Guide to Green Living in the High Country.” In May
of 2009, HC3 won the Outstanding Outreach Program from the
Colorado Association for Recycling for these programs. Find
