Close the Loop... Buy Recycled!
As the saying goes, “if
you aren’t buying recycled, you aren’t really
recycling.” Obviously if no one is buying products
made from recycled materials than there isn’t a market
and recycling itself will not continue. We will cover
some of the most requested items here but would like to
encourage you to simply ask for recycled products when you
are in the market for whatever it is you are in the market
for. If your store doesn’t offer the product
in recycled content let them know that you would be interested
in having the option.
Eartha Steward's Green Guide to High Country Living is an annual publication written by the High Country Conservation Center and designed by Summit Daily News. The Green Guide provides information on green products and services in our mountain community. Learn the secrets to eating and buying locally. Discover eartha-friendly cleaning tips. Find out how and where to recycle in the County. Thumb through pages of local green businesses, options, and opportunities. There are so many choices we (as individuals and as a community) can take to help create a better world for future generations. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear, we have the ability each day to make a positive difference for our world. We hope you find the guide both useful and inspirational in making some of those choices and taking some of those actions. Pick up your copy of Eartha's Green Guide at the Conservation Center (518 E. Main Street in Frisco), Summit Daily News, and at the Frisco Recycling Drop-Off Center. If you have a "green" product or service to share with our mountain community, let us know about it! While we only print the guide once a year, we help spread the word the best we can. Contact us at 668-5703 or send a note to info@highcountryconservation.org.

Packaging- Is the package made from recycled material- and is it recyclable? Paperboard (like a cereal box) almost always is made with recycled content, glass and aluminum typically is as well. Plastic on the other hand is rarely made from recycled content, so check the label. Certain companies make recycled content packaging a priority and others do not.
Paper Products-
Recycled content toilet paper and paper napkins and towels
can be found at most grocery stores these days (and if yours
doesn’t carry them you need to tell them to start).
If you must buy paper plates, you should know that
there are many recycled options for these as well, although
not all stores carry these yet. Seventh
Generation is a great company for these products
and is widely available.
Office
Paper- Plain white copy paper is easy enough to
find in recycled content. One local store is The
Balance Sheet at 101 S 7th Street in Frisco
for paper- they offer much more than just plain white paper
too. If you can’t find what you are looking for there a
visit to Conservatree
will certainly help. Their Guide to Environmentally
Sound Papers is a great resource for finding many companies
that offer just what you are looking for.
Other Office Products-
The Balance
Sheet also offers binders, pencils, folders,
and even equipment for organizing your office all utilizing
recycled content products.
