March for Science
The March for Science High Country in Breckenridge, is an officially registered satellite march to the March for Science happening in Washington D.C. on April 22, 2017. As our mountain communities have tremendous passion for outdoor recreation, public lands and wildlife, Breckenridge will join over 400 Marches for Science nationwide and worldwide.
The March will kick off at 1:30 pm from the South Gondola Parking Lot. We will proceed along the Riverwalk through Breckenridge, culminating with a rally “Celebrating Science” at The Village at Breckenridge. We will have several speakers, bands, informational tents, Earth Day activities for the kids, and live music by The Pine Beatles and The Ameilas. The March for Science-High Country is free and open to all.
Colorado nature photographer and Summit County resident John Fielder will be on hand to project his favorite photographs of our county on a large outdoor screen enhanced with beautiful music. John will discuss his observations about the effect of global warming on our county, state, and planet based upon 40 years of photographing the natural world.
Enjoy the youngest speaker, Summit Student, Rhaelyn Haddix, talk about her wonderful project benefiting our county – and planet! Curb to Compost started as a home school worm farm project by Rhaelyn in 2014. After attending the Mountain Master Compost Class in Breckenridge by HC3, she endeavored to make Summit County an even cleaner and more beautiful place to live. Curb to Compost already had about 250 worms and a small Rubber Maid bin that they were composting in, but more was needed.
