Breck Green Business Program

This program is currently being developed and will begin in January 2012. To give your input please contact Lynne Greene at the High Country Conservation Center (970) 668-5703, lynne@highcountryconservation.org or Julia Puester at the Town of Breckenridge, (970) 547-3174, juliap@townofbreckenridge.com
Purpose
The Town of Breckenridge is partnering with the High Country Conservation Center to offer incentives and support to businesses making environmentally responsiboe choices. In accordance with the SustainableBreck Plan, the Breck Green Business certification program will offer incentives and assistance to encourage businesses to implement voluntary actions to protect, preserve and improve the environment beyond what current laws require.
Businesses that join the program will be provided with:
• technical assistance and coaching throughout the program
• money for energy and waste improvements
• public recognition
Why is this type of green business program successful?
The program provides flexibility for businesses. Technical sustainability, energy and waste audits give recommendations for upgrades that are specific to each business. Any upgrade listed on the audit is eligible for program incentives.
The program speaks to the bottom-line. Businesses are given a cash incentive to complete upgrades. In addition, audits provide calculations for potential monetary, energy and waste savings, as well as simple payback for any improvements.
The program provides local technical support and coaching. Without appropriate follow-up, audits often go unused. Business owners will be coached through out the process from audit, to tracking and upgrade.
